Google $135M Settlement: Check If You Qualify for a Payout

Google has agreed to a $135 million settlement over claims involving Android phone data usage. If you used an Android device in recent years, you may be eligible for a payment.

Who qualifies

You may be included if:

  • You used an Android phone on a cellular network
  • The usage happened between November 12, 2017 and final approval date
  • You are a U.S. resident

Residents of California are excluded due to a separate case.

What the case is about

The lawsuit claimed Android devices sent data to Google servers in the background, even when:

  • Apps were not in use
  • Phones were connected to Wi-Fi

Google denied wrongdoing but agreed to settle.

How much you can get

The total fund is $135 million, but individual payouts will vary.

  • Payments could be up to around $100
  • Most people will likely receive less
  • Final amounts depend on how many people claim

How to claim your money

Most users will not need to file a full claim.

Instead:

  • You may receive a notice (email or mail)
  • Choose how you want to get paid (PayPal, Zelle, bank transfer, prepaid card)
  • Confirm your details

If required, follow instructions in the notice to complete your claim.

What happens next

The settlement still needs final court approval. After that:

  • Notices will be sent to eligible users
  • Payment selection begins
  • Funds are distributed
