Live in California? This Program Pays Artists $10,200 — Check Who Qualifies

A guaranteed income program in Northern California is offering selected artists more than $10,000 in direct payments and the money comes with no spending restrictions.

The Creative Growth Grants (CGF) program, managed by the Sacramento Office of Arts and Culture, is designed to support working artists and cultural professionals with stable monthly income for one full year.

Here’s how it works and who can apply.

 

How Much Money Do Participants Receive?

This isn’t a one-time grant.

Selected participants receive:

  • $850 per month

  • For 12 consecutive months

  • Totaling $10,200 by August 2026

Unlike many traditional grants or scholarships, the funds come with no restrictions.

Recipients can use the money for:

  • Rent or mortgage payments

  • Medical expenses

  • Art supplies or equipment

  • Living costs

  • Professional development

The goal is financial stability, not project-based funding.

 

Who Is Eligible for the Program?

The program is limited to 200 selected participants, and strict requirements apply.

To qualify, you must meet all of the following:

1. Residency Requirement

  • Must live within Sacramento County

  • Provide proof of residence dated within the last 60 days

2. Age Requirement

  • Must be at least 18 years old

3. Professional Artist Requirement

  • Must demonstrate an active track record

  • Work must fall within one of the 13 recognized creative disciplines

 

What Disciplines Are Accepted?

The program supports a wide range of creative professionals, including:

  • Craftsmanship

  • Dance

  • Design (fashion, graphic design)

  • Film and cinema (actors, directors, animators)

  • Literary arts

  • Music (composers, performers, DJs with original work)

  • Oral traditions

  • Social practice and community art

  • Theater

  • Performance art

  • Traditional arts and cultural heritage

  • Visual arts (painting, photography, sculpture)

  • Interdisciplinary arts

The focus is on individuals actively contributing to the cultural identity of the region.
