Cash App Settlement: How to Know if You Qualify for Up to $147

If you live in Washington and ever received an unexpected promotional text from Cash App, you may be entitled to a small payout.

Parent company Block Inc. has agreed to a $12.5 million settlement following allegations that it sent referral messages without users’ consent, violating state privacy laws.

What the Lawsuit Was About

The class-action case, Bottoms v. Block Inc. (Case No. 2:23-cv-01969-MJP), claimed that Cash App sent automated promotional texts to people who never opted in to receive them.

Under Washington’s privacy and consumer protection laws, businesses must obtain clear permission before sending marketing messages.

While Block Inc. denies any wrongdoing, it chose to settle to avoid lengthy legal proceedings.

The agreement now opens the door for affected residents to receive cash payments between $88 and $147, depending on how many people file claims.
