Pennsylvania residents could soon see $500 checks in their mailbox thanks to the state’s Money Match program, a new initiative to return unclaimed property without the usual paperwork.
Treasurer Stacy Garrity says this is “real money” that can be used for daily expenses, and thousands of people are eligible.
What Is the Pennsylvania Money Match Program?
The Pennsylvania Money Match program automatically returns certain unclaimed property worth up to $500 to verified owners.
Instead of searching for your own unclaimed funds and filing claims, the Treasury identifies and confirms eligible residents, then sends out payments directly.
The program was approved unanimously by lawmakers in 2024 to make it easier for people to get money that already belongs to them.
Who Can Get the $500 Payment?
-
Pennsylvania residents with unclaimed property worth up to $500
-
Must be a single-owner account or property
-
Treasury will verify your name, Social Security number, and address
If you’re not automatically matched, you can still apply online by creating an account on the Pennsylvania Treasury’s website and submitting proof of your identity.
When Will Payments Arrive?
-
Payments are sent quarterly
-
The most recent round sent 39,045 checks
-
The next round, about 40,000 notification letters, will be mailed in August 2025
-
Once verified, payments are typically issued within 45 days
Bottom line: If you live in Pennsylvania, check your mailbox this August.
You could receive an unexpected $500 stimulus-style payment from the state, no complicated application required.
